Austrian expedition to the Arctic (1873-1874)

The Austrian authorities organized an expedition to the Arctic, in 1873-1874, led by Julius von Payer (1852-1915) and Karl Weyprecht (1838-1881), military officers. They named a particular zone: “Franz Josef Land”.

As autoridades Austríacas organizaram em 1873-1874 uma expedição ao Ártico dirigida por Julius von Payer (1852-1915) e Karl Weyprecht (1838-1881), oficiais militares. Atribuíram a determinada zona a designação de “Terra de Francisco José”.

Petra, Jordan

The discovery of this Jordanian region was made by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt (1784-1817) in 1812. In 1828, the French Leon-Emmanuel-Joseph-Simon, Comte de Laborde (1807-1869) and the naval officer Louis Maurice Adolphe Linant of Bellefonds (1799-1883) visited Petra for a pictorial record. The Scotsman David Roberts (1796-1864) was on the site in March 1838.

A descoberta desta região Jordana deve-se ao explorador Suiço Johann Ludwig Burckhardt (1784-1817) no ano de 1812. Para registo pictórico visitaram-na em 1828 os Franceses Léon-Emmanuel-Simon-Joseph, conde de Laborde (1807-1869), e o oficial da marinha Louis Maurice Adolphe Linant de Bellefonds (1799-1883). O Escocês David Roberts (1796-1864) esteve no local em Março de 1838.

The city of Bhuvaneswar, capital of the Indian state of Orissa, situated in the eastern peninsula of Hindustan, has a temple of Hindu religion which exhibits a remarkable architectural value.

During the war of religions in France, Villegagnon settled in Rio de Janeiro. The Dutch settled in the Northeast. The Battle of Guararapes against the Dutch (April 19, 1648) marked the withdrawal of the invaders.

Acropolis of Athens

Some of the most famous buildings of antiquity (Parthenon, Erechtheum, and others) were built, after 450 BC, in the Acropolis (“high city”), a 150 meters high rocky hill.
