Salome, daughter of Herod Philip and Herodias, danced for Herod Antipas. The Evangelists St. Mark VI (17-28) and St. Matthew (XIV, 1-11) report that, under the influence of her mother, Salome asked for St. John the Baptist’s head as a reward.
