Ixion, king of the Lapiths, the people of Thessaly, was a member, jointly with Sisyphus and Tantalus, of the bully gods of Greek mythology. Moved by the regret of having incinerated his father in law (Eion), Ixion went mad and toured the world as a beggar. He got purified to obtain his lost sanity. At a banquet of the gods he sexually harassed Hera and their encounters resulted in the birth of the Centaurs. Because he boasted about what had happened, Zeus struck him with a lightning and threw him in Hell.
