Johann Hamza’s vision of Austrian society

The Austrian painter Johann Hamza (1850-1927) depicted aspects of the existent social ranks of his time.

Austrian expedition to the Arctic (1873-1874)


The Austrian authorities organized an expedition to the Arctic, in 1873-1874, led by Julius von Payer (1852-1915) and Karl Weyprecht (1838-1881), military officers. They named a particular zone: “Franz Josef Land”.

As autoridades Austríacas organizaram em 1873-1874 uma expedição ao Ártico dirigida por Julius von Payer (1852-1915) e Karl Weyprecht (1838-1881), oficiais militares. Atribuíram a determinada zona a designação de “Terra de Francisco José”.
