Filippo Baratti (1849-1936) was born in Trieste at the time when the city was joining the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As an Orientalist he visited Spain and North Africa. In the 1880s he settled temporarily in London.

Os lagos europeus localizam-se principalmente na parte central: Itália, Suíça, Áustria. Alguns surgiram em crateras de vulcões extintos. Outros atribuem-nos ao recuo do Oceano Atlântico devido ao enrugamento dos Alpes.

European lakes are mainly located in the central part: Italy, Switzerland, Austria. Some were formed from the craters of extinct volcanoes. Others appeared because of the retreat of the Atlantic Ocean due to wrinkling of the Alps.
