To that end he hired the architect Louis Le Vau (1612-1670) and by his death Jules Hardouin-Mansart (1646-1708), a relative of the creator of mansards. The decline in popularity began in 1782 with the appearance of pamphlets about her personal conduct, written by members of several revolutionary groups.
