Versailles Palace and Trianons
In a 700-hectare park, where Louis XIII had a hunting lodge, Louis XIV ordered the construction of a grand palace. To that end he hired the architect Louis Le Vau (1612-1670) and by his death Jules Hardouin-Mansart (1646-1708), a relative of the creator of mansards. He had the landscape commissioned to André Le Nôtre (1613-1700). It houses an important historical museum.
