Catholic allegories

The term ‘allegory’ might have its origin in the Greek words ‘allos’, meaning ‘other’, and ‘agoreuein’, which means ‘speak publicly’. It associates the literal with the figurative sense. The Christian allegory is called exegesis (to explain).

Lady of Shalott

Alfred Tennyson's poem is based on the short story “La donna di Scalotta”, which reports the case of a lady who, by charm, lives enclosed in her bedroom. She would die immediately if she had contact with the outside world, as it came to happen.

Frescoes: Musei Capitolini - Rome

The museums of the Capitol in Rome (Musei Capitolini Palazzo dei Conservatori), include frescoes and oil paintings from a variety of centuries and artists, and Roman sculptures. They are installed in two palaces facing the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius.

Centaurs or Bull-slayers

In Greek mythology the Centaurs were creatures with the body of a horse and human head and bust. It is said that their name derives from the words “Ken” and “Taurus”, that is, bull-slayers.

Na mitologia grega os centauros eram seres com corpo de cavalo e busto e cabeça humana. Diz-se que formaram o seu nome das palavras ken e taurus, ou seja matador de touros.
