Orpheus' death (Morte de Orfeu)

When legend becomes fact, only the legend matters. A group of Maenads, angry because they felt neglected, killed Orpheus and tore his body. They threw his head to the river Hebrus, where it floated singing 'Eurydice'. The nine Muses put the several parts of his dismembered body together and buried him on Mount Olympus.

Quando a lenda se torna facto, só a lenda importa. Um grupo de Ménades, furiosas por se sentirem desprezadas mataram-no e despedaçaram o seu corpo. Lançaram a sua cabeça ao rio Hebro onde flutuou a cantar 'Eurídice'. As nove Musas juntaram as várias partes do seu esquartejado corpo e sepultaram-nas no monte Olimpo.

Death by Hans Baldung (Hans Baldung e a morte)

Various epidemics of plague, followed by periods of famine, struck Europe in the early Renaissance. Hans Baldung Grien (1484-1540) lived during this tragic period and in his works he expressed the shock that death had produced in his spirit.

As várias epidemias de peste negra, seguidas de períodos de fome, assolaram a Europa no início da Renascença. Hans Baldung Grien (1484-1540) viveu nessa época trágica e expressou nas suas obras o choque que a morte produziu no seu espírito.

Morte (death)

A vida humana decorre entre o nascimento e a morte. O aparecimento dum ser humano desejado é quase sempre sinal de alegria e esperança. A morte espreita constantemente a sua oportunidade de entrar em acção: acidentes, guerras, doenças, epidemias.
