Olho divino (eye of Providence or all-seeing eye of God)

Este símbolo mostra um olho, encerrado num triângulo, rodeado de raios solares. Tem sido interpretado como o olhar de Deus sobre a Humanidade. Surge no olho do deus egípcio Horus; no olho de Buda ou 'olho do Mundo'; na representação da Trindade na iconografia medieval Cristã; na iconografia alquímica; na iconografia maçónica presente nas Lojas de alguns ritos; na Declaração dos Direitos Humanos (1798) e no reverso do Great Seal of the USA, por proposta do filósofo americano Pierre Eugène du Simitiere (1736-1784), como se observa nas notas de um dólar.

This symbol shows an eye, enclosed in a triangle, surrounded by sun rays. It has been interpreted as God's gaze on Humanity. It appears in the eye of the Egyptian god Horus; the eye of Buddha or 'eye of the World'; in the Trinity representation of medieval Christian iconography; in the alchemical iconography and Masonic iconography present in the rites of some Lodges; in the Declaration of Human Rights (1798) and on the reverse of the Great Seal of the USA, a proposal by the American philosopher Pierre Eugène du Simitiere (1736-1784), as seen on one-dollar bills.
