The Adoration of the Magi (Adoração dos Reis Magos)

The Magi are mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew (2, 1-12) but the number of sages is not specified. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the Christ Child. The best description of the event belongs to the Venerable Bede (673-735). Gonçalo Coelho’s expedition arrived to the wonderful harbour of Angra dos Reis (Rio de Janeiro) on 6 January 1502.


Os Magos aparecem citados no Evangelho de São Mateus (2, 1-12) mas o seu número não surge especificado. Ao Menino Jesus fizeram ofertas de ouro, incenso e mirra. A melhor descrição do acontecimento pertence ao Venerável Beda (673-735). A expedição de Gonçalo Coelho arribou à maravilhosa Angra dos Reis (Estado do Rio de Janeiro) a 6 de Janeiro de 1502.
