Queen Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) II

At 15 (1770) she traveled to France to marry the Dauphin Louis Auguste de Bourbon. She was enthusiastically greeted between Versailles and Strasbourg. Marie Antoinette became queen four years later when her husband, Louis XVI, ascended the throne. Unlike other 'exiled' princesses she adapted easily to life at court and spoke French correctly. The decline in popularity began in 1782 with the appearance of pamphlets about her personal conduct, written by members of several revolutionary groups.
