Circumcision of Christ

According to the Jewish worship the removal of the foreskin was considered as a symbol of divine covenant (Genesis, 17:10-13). There was controversy among the early Christians (St. Paul in his Letter to the Philippians 3:3).

The historicity of the birth of Jesus Christ has been long established, with the exception of one day that is not documented. For this reason Christian Churches have set a date according to their liturgical calendar.

Christ before Pilate

Pontius Pilate served as a procurator/prefect (praefectus) of the Roman province of Judea (26-36). For St. Luke (23:12) Christ’s condemnation was the way Pilate found to reconcile with Herod. According to Eusebius of Caesarea (Historia Ecclesiastica), he put an end to his life in the year 39 after being discharge from his post by Caligula. It is believed that there is connection between (Christ’s) murder and (Pilate’s) suicide.
