Saint Bartholomew's day massacre (August 25, 1572)

The so-called “S. Bartholomew’s night” occurred during the long struggle between Calvinists and Catholics during the reign of Charles IX of France. Some Huguenot leaders were eliminated, including the Admiral Gaspar de Coligny.

A denominada “noite de S. Bartolomeu” ocorreu durante a longa luta entre Calvinistas e Católicos durante o reinado de Carlos IX de França. Foram eliminados alguns dirigentes Huguenotes, entre os quais o Almirante Gaspar de Coligny.

The Italian painter Achille Beltrame (1871-1945) studied at the Milan Accademia de Belle Arti di Brera. For 40 years he illustrated the cover and back cover of the newspaper “La Domenica del Corriere” on the main subjects during successive weeks. He left numerous oil paintings.
