Pozzuoli's history
This Greek colony became Roman in 194 BC under the name Puteoli due to the smell of sulfur from “Solfatara” and “Fields of Fire”. Nearby lie the Flavian Amphitheater, Lake Averno, the area where the Roman naval base in Cape Misenum was set.
