Autumn landscapes

Characteristic landscapes of autumn, with deciduous trees displaying their leaves changing colour while acquiring different hues, and loosening up their branches, served as motif to numerous painters.

Theseus and Minotaur


Theseus, a demigod, son of Aegean, king of Athens, raised by his maternal grandfather in Argolida, had the Centaur Chiron as his master. During his long deeds ​​as a hero, he killed the Minotaur in the labyrinth of Crete with the help of Ariadne. After some time living together, Theseus abandoned her on the island of Naxos.

Pallas Athena and the olive tree

Pseudo-Apollodorus (second century BC) in the work ‘Mythological Library’ (3.14.1) informs that Pallas Athena took possession of the city of Athens because Zeus considered that the planting of an olive tree in the Acropolis was more important than the fountain created by Poseidon.

Abduction of Europa


Europa was in Greek mythology the daughter of a Phoenician king. To abduct this goddess, Zeus disguised himself as a bull, so that he wouldn’t be recognized by Hera, and carried her to Crete.
